Community Outreach
Community Outreach
is a major effort that brings knowledgeable representatives of the Council
into schools, community centers, hospitals, and other neighborhood settings
throughout the five boroughs. Each year, it offers information on alcohol
and alcoholism to over 15,000 individuals of all ages and backgrounds at
more than 100 community sites.
Presentations are tailored to meet the special needs of audiences, which
range from students and parents concerned about drinking in their communities
to recovering individuals in treatment centers. Distribution of printed
materials further educates and makes audiences aware of the Council's referral
and other services.
Because the presenters have considerable, often first-hand knowledge of
the devastating effects of problem drinking on families, the discussions
sparked are frequently moving and illuminating. As a result, many organizations
call upon the Speakers Bureau services each year, and there is a growing
demand from new client organizations.
The Alcoholism Council of New York sponsors experiential educational presentations,
on topics, open to the public and the professional community: psychotherapists,
clinicians, social workers, alcohol and substance abuse counselors, students,
and EAP providers.
These events are designed to promote and enhance the awareness of substance
abuse and recovery. Programs are presented by highly qualified and experienced
professionals.
All presentations are offered free of charge at the Alcoholism Council of
New York, located at 2 Washington Street, 7th floor, New York, NY 10004,
unless otherwise stated.
